Born in Gateshead, England in 1856, George McLeod Winsor was a British author who wrote under the name G. McLeod Winsor.

 

His most well-known work, Station X (1919), narrated a psychic invasion of Earth from Mars, told in the style of Jules Verne. H.P. Lovecraft praised Station X as a "semi-classic" in his 1934 essay ‘Some Notes on Interplanetary Fiction’. The novel was later serialized in Amazing magazine in 1926.

 

First published in 1926 under the title The Mysterious Disappearances, his second novel was an impossible crime mystery that was retitled Vanishing Men the following year. 

 

His final book, Once Bitten (1930), was a murder mystery involving a military man who discovers his doppelganger.

 

Winsor died on 27 July 1939 in Isleworth, Middlesex.
